A WIDNES student is celebrating a double victory after winning two contests at an international singing and dancing competition in Disneyland Paris.

Cronton student Nakita Argomandkhah, aged 17, beat more than 300 performers from as far afield as Australia, America, Russia, Canada, Cyprus and Spain.

She won the senior solo singing competition at the International Festival of Dance and Performing Arts and scooped first prize for a group routine with her dance school.

The festival gives dance groups, duos, and solo performers the experience of a lifetime to showcase their talents on a Disney stage.

Nikita sang ‘Colours of the Wind’ from the Disney animated film, Pocahontas.

The competition was held in France from October 2-5. Organisers say the standard of entries was extremely high.

Nikita, of Bold Heath, Widnes, who received a trophy, medal and certificate, said, “The competition was amazing and I was over the moon to have won.”

She is studying professional dance at Riverside and has performed in several college productions.

She will be playing Mina in the musical Dracula at Centre Stage in Kingsway from November 26-29.

Matt Plant, artistic director for Riverside’s centre of excellence said, “I have had the privilege of directing Nakita in major roles from Fontine in Les Miserables to the title character in Jane Eyre and she never ceases to amaze me.

“Her approach to her work, so much of which is extra-curricular, is faultless and leaves us in no doubt that she has a great deal of success to come.”

Nikita is now preparing for auditions for university and drama schools.
