MORE than 200 young people from Halton collected their Duke of Edinburgh awards at a special presentation evening.

Pupils from Cavendish School, Ashley School, Saints Peter and Paul Catholic College, Saint Chad’s Catholic and CE High School,The Grange School, Halton Youth Provision and Ormiston Chadwick Academy received theier prestigious awards at a ceremony in The Brindley.

Thirty young people from The Grange School also collected the first Mayor's Awards which have been piloted in the school.

Halton's Mayor, Cllr Shaun Osborne said: 'What a fantastic evening celebrating all the wonderful achievements of our young people from Halton.

"The fact is that our young people get a lot of well deserved good press in the media because of their involvement in schemes like this."

The evening  included performances by young people including a rendition of Stand By Me by bronze Mayor's Award holders, 10-year-olds Elise Ireland and Megan Sykes.

Ella McKevitt, aged 15, from Runcorn, sang On My Own from Les Miserables.
