FIVE teenagers have been inspired by a trip to Cambridge University.

The Cronton sixth formers spent three days attending lectures, meeting staff and students and attending social events to find out what life is like at one of the country’s top academic institutions.

Former SS Peter and Paul Catholic College pupil, Victoria Houghton, aged 16, from Woodview Road, Widnes, said: “My favourite thing was going to the lectures.

“The most useful for me was environmental science.

“It made me realise that would be the subject I want to do. I am planning to apply to Cambridge, I know if I work hard enough it could be possible.”

Jodie Keillar, aged 17, from William Street, Widnes, Chloe Birmingham, aged 16, from Lockett Road, Widnes and Laith Alshurkri, aged 17, and Michael Cooke, aged 17, both from Liverpool, were chosen as part of the prestigious university programme for gifted students.

Dawn Venables, head of A levels at Cronton, said: “It provides them with a wide range of experiences and makes sure they are prepared for the application process for Oxbridge and other universities.”
