Weaver Vale Conservative candidate Graham Evans completed the London Marathon yesterday for the fourth time.

He is raising money for three charities, including Halton Haven Hospice.

He said: “I am so delighted to have been able to complete the marathon and raise money for these fabulous charities.

"In the midst of a general election campaign, some said I was mad to run the marathon this year, but I’m not one to let politics get in the way of raising much needed funds for charities which are so close to my heart.”

He was one of only five former MPs taking part in the event this year.

Mr Evans added: “The London Marathon is such a fantastic race.

“This year there were 38,000 runners which is the largest ever number.

“It has an amazing atmosphere. But the most important thing about the race is how it draws funding and raises awareness for so many important charities.”

Graham was running for Halton Haven Hospice, St Luke’s Hospice in Winsford and ABF, the Soldiers' Charity (formerly the Army Benevolent Fund).
