AS the nation fell silent across the UK today to remember 38 people killed in the Tunisia beach attack, piped music continued to blare out at Asda in Widnes.

Outraged shoppers have blasted the store in Milton Road for failing to pay respect to holidaymakers who lost their lives a week ago.

Asda has apologised and says it will investigate the matter.

The company said a message had been sent to all stores, depots and offices notifying them of the one minute silence at 12 noon today.

Customers have expressed their anger on social media.

Billy Lumsden posted:”Guess what happened at 12 noon nothing at all.

“No acknowledgement. They didn't even bother to turn the piped music down. Too busy trying to sell CDs no doubt.”

Sue Barker said: “That’s awful.”

Marie Brodin added: “I’ve wrote to head office.”

Paul Butler posted: “I’m a postie in Widnes and I stopped my delivery at noon out of respect.

“Asda Widnes management have no respect. Sixty seconds is all it took.”

Pat Ashton said: “Should hang their heads in shame.”

Pauline Naughton Hogg said: “How disrespectful.”

Other supermarkets, shops, businesses and schools across Halton did pay their respects.

People across Runcorn and Widnes paused marking the moment the killings took place.

Chris Leadbetter said:”Morrisons even closed the revolving doors for the minute’s silence. Shame on Asda.”

Kerry Dunning posted: “Aldi had a minute’s silence.”

Jo Jo Neil said Iceland observed the tribute.

Lesley O’Neil said: “We all did at Fiddlers Ferry Power Station.”

Colette Mcardle said a minute’s silence was held in the courts.

An Asda spokesman said: “In line with company policy our colleagues in stores, depots and head office across the country observed Friday’s minute silence to remember the victims of the attacks in Tunisia.

“If this silence was not appreciated in full in one of our stores we sincerely apologise and will investigate further.”
