AN artist was delighted visitors at The Brindley Open Art exhibition chose her painting as one of their favourites.
Phyllis Yearsley, aged 67, from Widnes said her entry ‘sunset’ was only the third oil painting she had done after her husband bought her a kit for Christmas.
Phyllis said: “This was the first time I entered the competition.
“A friend suggested it. I had no idea I would win.
“It is great to think the public coming to the exhibition liked my work so much.”
She shared the £50 art voucher visitor choice prize with 48-year-old Rob Caswell from Widnes.
He is a veteran of the awards having won the visitors’ choice three times in 2007, 2008 and 2010.
More than 70 adults and more than a dozen children entered this year’s competition.
People of all ages and experience entered their work.
Members of Years Ahead, Murdishaw Art Co-op and Weaver Community Arts joined individuals to take part.
Photographs, prints, paintings and mixed media were exhibited at the Brindley from June 5 to July 18.
Work by young artists was displayed at The Studio in Widnes.
