HEARTBREAK turned to joy as a Widnes pensioner was reunited with her late mum’s lost ring.

Mum-of-three Edna Clark from Halton View was distraught after losing her precious gold and diamond ring at Widnes flea market.

An appeal in last week’s World was spotted by a Runcorn couple who had found the missing gem.

Robert Phillips and his wife, Ruth, both aged 62, from Dalton Street returned it to her on Friday.

Robert said: “My wife felt it under her foot and stood on it.

“We seen it in the paper and phoned the lady up.”

Edna, who has six grandchildren, said: “I was absolutely elated.

“I hugged the woman a couple of times and gave her £40.

“It was very emotional. I wouldn’t have got it back if it hadn’t been for The World.”

Her late mum, Annie McDowell died 22 years ago.

Edna added: “It was worn by my mum beside her engagement and wedding rings. It is very old and chipped but it is special to me.

“Something like this restores your faith. I’m overjoyed.”
