PUPILS who attended a former grammar school in Widnes 50 years ago are meeting up again.

A reunion is being held at Wade Deacon High School at 11am on Sunday, September 5.

It will be a chance for ex-pupils to have a tour of the newly refurbished £28.3 million building in Birchfield Road.

Organiser, former pupil Coleen Harper, (nee Flynn), from Farnworth, said: “I came back to Widnes after college and married another former pupil, Phil.

“Our own children were at the high school between 1995 and 2000 but the building has changed radically since then so it will be great to see it on the inside.”

Anyone who was a pupil or teacher between 1964 and 1971 is welcome to come to the reunion.

Coleen added: “Wade Deacon was at that time two separate schools.

“The girls’ school building was recently demolished but the boys’ school facade remains.

“It is now one of the best academies in the country.”

Head of school Michele Bacon has agreed for former pupils to meet and tour the new facilities.
