A UNIQUE community group which has given a new lease of life to thousands of older people has been launched in Halton.
University of the Third Age (U3A) is a learning co-operative for retired and semi-retired people.
Members share their knowledge, skills and experience and learn from each other through a range of interest groups.
People volunteer to run sessions covering a range of educational and creative topos as well and leisure activities.
No qualifications are needed and none are given.
Lots of people joined at an inaugural meeting at The Brindley in July,.
The next meeting of Halton U3A is on Thursday September 10 at 2pm in Widnes Masonic Hall in Kingsway.
Retired teacher Paula Cox, from Farnworth, said: “This meeting is for members and people who want to join.
“There will be handouts and information about a timetable for all the interest groups we have organised, 22 in all.”
The interest groups arranged so far include crown green bowls, creative writing, intermediate bridge, IT, reading, singing sea shanties, photography, country dancing and practical woodland conservation.
There will also be dining and lunch groups.
Anyone interested is welcome to attend.
