TWO Runcorn pharmacists are making medical history by promoting brain health.

Brothers Max Hanson, aged 26, and Matthew, aged 28, want to encourage people to improve their memory.

Their company, Neurolab has become the first in the UK to create a product specifically designed to improve brain health.

Memoraid, a complete memory supplement, was only launched a month ago has already attracted interest from all over the world.

Max, of Hillfield, said: “We have had calls from Saudi Arabia, China and Iran.

“We have also had a lot of pharmacies and wholesalers wanting to stock it.”

Former St Chad’s pupil Max came up with the idea whilst he was studying for his final university exams.

He drank highly caffeinated energy drinks to tackle late night revision.

Max said: “It was disastrous. I wasn’t able to study effectively due to its side effects.

“I wasn’t sleeping, ate junkfood, wasn’t exercising and had increased anxiety levels.”

Researching for his dissertation on ‘cognitive enhancing drugs’ he discovered that many students were risking their health buying prescription only medicines from street dealers to enhance their memory and focus.

As well as developing a safe product, the brothers have devised practical tips on how to keep alert and reduce the risk of dementia.

They both work for a pharmaceutical company in Runcorn and hope one day to have their own family business.

Their late granddad Herbert William Thom was a pharmacist.

Max said: “Having a balanced diet and taking vitamin D is important.

“Exercising 15 minutes a day, just walking, increases the amount of blood flow to the brain.

“There is no age limit to improving your memory. Doing things like crosswords and Sudoku can help.

“Having a healthy lifestyle, taking a few steps every day can make a big difference.”

They hope a university will carry out a clinical study on their product which contains ingredients such as sage and gingko.

Max added: “You need someone to be leading the way.

“We want to be pioneers of brain health.”
