MASKED burglars attacked an employee as they tried to raid a safe at a Runcorn pub.

Two men wearing balaclavas confronted the man as he was closing the bar at The Fiddlers Three on The Butts.

It followed a loud bang at the Castlefields pub.

The intruders demanded access to the safe.

The man was assaulted by one of the offenders, leaving him with a small cut and bruising to his head.

He was helped by one of two friends who were with him at the time.

The attack happened shortly after midnight on Monday, October 5.

The offenders fled empty handed.

Detectives today appealed for help from members of the public to trace the villains.

The first offender is described as white, in his late 20s, 5ft 10ins tall, and of stocky build.

He was wearing dark clothing and a balaclava.

The second man is described as white, in his late 20s, 5ft 8ins tall and of medium build.

He was wearing a black, one-hole balaclava, a black coat and black trainers.
