A DEDICATED 16-year-old musician is embarking on her dream career after being awarded a £2,000 bursary to buy a tenor horn.

Jennie Worrall received the gift from the Jane and Stephen Murphy Foundation's second bursary.

The Cronton College student has bought a Besson Prestige silver instrument and mouthpiece.

She recently earned a place in the National Youth Brass Band and plays for Lindley Brass Band in Huddersfield.

The foundation, which the Murphy family have endowed in memory of their grandparents, has been set up to support young musical and artistic talent.

Jennie, from Orford, who is tutored by Richard Jones, has already achieved grade eight.

Her dad, Ronald, aged 54, said: "I am extremely grateful to have received this support.

"I have four children and it is hard to fund.

“I was thinking about taking a bank loan out to help but this has taken a lot of pressure off.

"She wants to pursue a career in music and is engrossed in playing. I can't see her ever giving it up."

Jennie travelled to Leeds to choose the tenor horn.

The Murphy family is working with Accent Music Education Hub which strives to ensure that every child aged five to 18 in Halton and Warrington has the opportunity to learn a musical instrument.

They are appealing to any gifted musicians who need help to get in touch.

Dr Michael Murphy said: "The foundation wants to help talented individuals and organisations that deal with young people.

"Any individual is welcome to apply, we want to support them."
