RUNCORN schoolchildren brought a gangster musical to life in a lively stageshow.

Pupils at Ormiston Bolingbroke Academy in Murdishaw performed Bugsy Malone to four sell-out audiences.

It followed months of rehearsals as the cast worked tirelessly with primary school pupils four evenings a week.

Drama and English teacher Grace McKevitt who directed the show said: “Students never lost their determination and love of performing.

“They had to get used to the vibe and zing of the 1920s as well as the sharp and confident swag of a New York City accent.

“All the cast, crew and band demonstrated 100 per cent commitment, effort and energy.”

Everyone enjoyed the crazy goings on of two rival gangs, she said, with their famous splurge guns.

The performing arts team would like to thank everyone who helped with costumes, props and backstage.

Student teacher John Fisher who worked behind the scenes as lighting technician and food technology teacher Leanne Ray provided interval cakes and refreshments.

“The biggest thank you must go to our dedicated and talented young cast who have been phenomenal and an absolute joy to work with,” added Miss McKevitt.

“The school production was a huge success and a credit to everyone who was involved in it.”
