A BABY girl given just days to live after being diagnosed with a rare cancer has touched the hearts of Runcorn wellwishers.

Seventeen-month-old Poppy-Mai Barnard has a progressive malignant rhabdoid tumour that has spread around her body and into her brain.

Her parents Sammi and Andrew, who have relatives in Runcorn, have been told she will not survive.

Doctors said Poppy only had days to live five weeks ago.

Her mum and dad have launched a campaign to build Poppy’s Field, a camp site and sanctuary where sick children can spend time with their family.

So far they have raised £22,581 towards their £100,000 targe.

Runcorn mum Naomi Larsen is organising a fundraising event at the Beechwood pub from 1pm to 6pm tomorrow.

“This story just touched my heart in so many ways,” said mum-of-three Naomi, from Beechwood.

“It’s absolutely heartbreaking.

“I have lost children so I know what it is like.

“Poppy’s parents are so strong and amazing. I want to do all I can to help them.”

Craft stalls, face painters and home made cakes promise plenty of family fun at tomorrow’s fundraiser.

A signed photograph of an Everton player and a signed Widnes Vikings rugby ball will be among many items going under the hammer in an auction.

“All my friends at work have been supporting me with donations,” added Naomi, a housekeeper at The Holiday Inn in Runcorn.

“Poppy’s nan and her relatives will be coming. I just want to be with them and wish everything away. We’ll be letting off balloons.”
