RUNCORN students joined the royal family and celebrities at Buckingham Palace for the diamond anniversary celebrations of the Duke of Edinburgh.

Pupils and staff from Ormiston Bolingbroke Academy in Murdishaw were honoured to attend the prestigious event.

Executive principal John Rigby and the school’s Duke of Edinburgh manager Zaina Porschke enjoyed refreshments and walking round the beautiful gardens before the presentations began.

Miss Porschke said: “To be invited to Buckingham Palace and be in the presence of members of the royal family was a real honour.

“It was such a special occasion. I am very proud of all our students who have completed their bronze, silver and gold award.

“It really does help to build character, self-confidence and raise the aspirations of young people.”

Soprano Natalie Coyle was guest speaker.

Actress Anna Friel, singer Ronan Keating, TV presenter Philip Scholfield and impressionist Jon Culshaw joined the Duke of Edinburgh, Earl of Wessex and Countess of Wessex for the momentous occasion.
