KWIK cricket has become one of the most popular games in Halton.

Schoolgirls have been taking part in the Widnes and Runcorn Girls Primary kwik cricket competitions.

Karen Drake, Halton school games organiser, said: “The Halton schools Kwik Cricket Programme is really growing from strength to strength and is one of the most popular competitions in the Halton school games competition calendar.

“In total 200 girls from 20 schools took part in the competition which is a great credit to work Halton Cricket Forum coaches put in to the schools in preparation for the competitions.”

Farnworth, Simms Cross, Our Lady of Perpetual Succour (OLPS), Spinney Avenue, Oakfield, Ditton, St Bedes Juniors, St Michaels, Moorfield, All Saints Upton, Lunts Heath and St John Fisher competed in the Widnes competition at Moorfield Cricket Club.

Semi-finals were played between Farnworth, Moorfield, OLPS and St Bedes Junior.

Farnworth was crowned 2016 champions with runners up being Our Lady of Perpetual Succour.

All Saints, Castle View, Our Lady Mother of the Saviour, Hill View, The Brow, St Martins and Castle View and St Martins competed in Runcorn.

Our Lady Mother of the Saviour won and St Martins were runners up.

Each team was presented with a certificate and winners and runners up presented received a trophy.

The four finalists Farnworth, OLPS, St Martins and OLMS will go on to represent Halton at the Cheshire Girls Kwik Cricket County final on June 29 at Warrington Sports Club.
