GLASSES, rings and keys were the most common things lost at Halton and Warrington hospitals last year, while laptops and a car were stolen.

A Freedom of Information request has revealed the full list of belongings reported lost and stolen from Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust during 2015.

Glasses were the most common item lost with 34 pairs of spectacles misplaced – including one patient who reported six pairs of glasses missing.

Other missing belongings include 17 keys, 14 cash cards, 12 watches, 11 rings and nine necklaces.

Two sets of rosary beads, two crosses and chains, two bracelets, a bangle and an earring are among items of lost jewellery.

An iPad, a Nintendo DS game, a remote control and five mobile phones also disappeared.

Eight amounts of cash, six purses, a bike, a hearing aid, a blood glucose meter, an e-cigarette, a train ticket and a carrier bag of papers also went missing.

Altogether, 132 items were lost while 25 items were reported stolen.

They included a car, two laptops, two tablet computers, six mobile phones, kitchen items, a t-shirt, nine amounts of cash and a bank card.

Patients and visitors to the hospital have been advised not to bring valuables.

A spokesman from Warrington and Halton Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust said: “The trust does not accept responsibility for any valuables, money or other articles that patients and visitors bring to the hospitals.

“We advise patients and their families coming for a planned appointment or procedure not to bring valuables with them.

“If they do need to bring valuables during an admission these need to be handed to ward staff who will place them in the ward safe or cash office.

“This is extended to visitors, who we advise to be vigilant and secure their valuables whilst on site – if they do need to report a loss or theft then they should contact security via a member of staff in the area they are visiting.”
