Widnes Golf Club mens’ team has just been crowned the 2016 South Lancs League champions for the first time in the club’s history.
The league of nine clubs within the old South Lancashire boundary was established in 1967.
Teams play each other at home and away throughout the season.
The competition is always keenly contested and this year went down to the final round of games with Widnes and Leigh finishing with equal points.
Widnes were crowned champions having the better head to head results during the season.
This year rookie team member Sean Bowles amassed the most points during the season of any player taking the Dave Vowles Memorial Trophy.
Team captain Steve Pettit was delighted with the result and thanked for all those who took part and supported the team throughout the year.
This crowns a great year for the club with the Ladies Handicap and Bronze teams finishing second and third in their respective leagues.
The club welcomes new members and anyone interested in joining can visit widnesgolfclub.co.uk or by call into the pro-shop on Highfield Road.
