WIDNES Vikings beat Newcastle Thunder 33-26 in the Betfred Championship and make it four wins on the spin.
Adam Lawton powered through the middle to open the scoring and he was followed over the whitewash by Olly Davies who doubled the lead.
Newcastle responded and levelled following a 70-metre Sam Halsall try and one from Jack Johnson.
A converted Matt Fleming plus a Ste Tyrer penalty goal gave Widnes an eight-point lead at the break.
They extended that lead in the second half with Tyrer sending Ryan Ince in at the corner.
Halsall grabbed his second of the day – and suddenly Vikings were up against it when Lawton was red-carded for direct contact with the head of a Newcastle player.
Newcastle cashed in with Brad Day crossing and then pulled level through a Gideon Boafo touchdown.
But it was left to Matty Fleming to grab the winner with a drop goal three minutes from time and in the closing seconds added a try.
