A GALA is taking place next month to raise money for the Epilepsy Action Charity in honour of a Runcorn woman.

Becca Banks, 35, has a rare condition called Gelastic Epilepsy, a form of epilepsy that shows itself through random and uncontrollable fits of laughter and crying without any warning or provocation.

These sypmtons began showing three years ago, after which Becca began a long 18-month journey for a diagnosis, with various different medications trialled and a long period of severe side effects due to the incorrect drugs.

In November 2021, however, she finally received a diagnosis. Her condition is incredibly rare, with only 1 in 1000 children suffering from it, and is even more uncommon in adults.

Doctors have offered no assurances that it will be something changeable in her life, this will be a disease she always has to deal with.

Becca's sister-in-law Jean Stone, 40, who is also from Runcorn, has now joined Becca in organising the gala in support of the Epilepsy Action Charity, a charitable organisation focused on improving the lives of everyone suffering from epilepsy.

Jean describing her sister-in-law said Becca as "the most positive and courageous person I know."

"The charity gala is her idea and she is currently working hard to make it a success".

The black tie gala on November 12 is taking place in Runcorn, with an Ibiza style DJ duo booked, and prosecco on arrival.

Tickets can be purchased on Eventbrite. The event is also looking for donations of gifts or events towards a raffle held on the night, with all money raised going to charity.
