TODAY'S Widnes #Throwback Thursday goes back to the aftermath of the Chemics 1981 Challenge Cup Final win at Wembley.

The picture, snapped by the Widnes World photographer Glenn Cameron, features a toothless pair Eric Prescott picking up hooker Keith Elwell on the stadium lap of honour after beating Hull KR 18-9.

Prescott, father of the legendary battler Steve Prescott, had joined Widnes earlier that season from Salford and enjoyed something of a swansong partnering Les Gorley in the second row.

Elwell, on the other hand, was a long-serving Widnes legend who made a phenomenal 591 appearances for the club, scoring 87 tries.

Doug Laughton had rebuilt the 1980-81 side after losing a cluster of experienced players to the fledgling Fulham club.

And it culminated in a glorious day in front of 92,496 supporters in London with tries from Mick Burke, Mick George and Andy Gregory.

Lance Todd winner Burke kicked four goals with skipper Mick Adams dropping a goal.
