Channel 4 is searching for adult virgins to take part in an upcoming documentary series.

The six-part documentary, with the working title of The Intimacy Retreat, will follow the journey of a group of adult virgins, as they learn skills to help them with intimacy.

Sexologists, someone who studies or researches sex, will run a Mediterranean island retreat to help people overcome their fears and insecurities when it comes to intimacy and sex.

According to University College London’s Next Steps study of 16,000 young people, one in eight 26-year-olds told the UCL researchers that they were virgins, compared to one in 20 in previous generations.

Some experts partly attribute this to a fear of intimacy and being humiliated on social media.

Casting directors listed some possible reasons for getting in touch. These are:

  • you just haven’t found the right person or you keep waiting for the ‘perfect moment’ that hasn’t come along.
  • Porn has created apprehensions about sex and performance.
  • You lack body confidence
  • You are unsure about your sexual identity or orientation.
  • You have social anxiety
  • You have physical issues that can make sex worrying or uncomfortable
  • You had a sexual experience a long time ago and have not had sex since for your own reasons
  • You have left a religious group that highly values chastity before marriage or you have kept your faith but changed your mind about your values around sex.

A spokesperson said: “The Intimacy Retreat (working title) is a six-part formatted documentary series for Channel 4 that follows the journey of a group of adults who are virgins (or identify as virgins) as they learn life-changing skills in the art of intimacy.

"Our leading sexologists will be running a unique Mediterranean island retreat that, using a radical and entirely new approach, will help people overcome their fears and insecurities when it comes to intimacy and sex.”

Filming takes place for three or four weeks in April and May. Applicants must be aged 21 and over and have a valid passport.

Shortlisted people will be required to attend a set of one-to-one meetings in London on one date around late March or early April. These meetings are essential to be considered for the series.

If invited to take part in the intimacy retreat, you may be required for a day’s interview filming in the UK around April 2024.

Applications close at 11.59pm on February 25.

Applicants have been asked to fill out a form on The Intimacy Retreat website, theintimacyretreat.co.uk
