RESIDENTS living in some areas of Widnes and Runcorn are being told to prepare for flooding.
The Environment Agency has issued a flood alert for the River Mersey estuary in the borough.
It came into effect this morning, Monday, due to high tides, which are expected to peak this afternoon from 12.30pm.
An Environment Agency spokesman said: “A flood alert has been issued due to the high tide forecast for this afternoon, Monday.
“We are expecting higher than normal tides over the next three days, and as a result, we may issue further flood alerts and flood warnings.
“We are closely monitoring the situation and will provide updated messaging during this period of high tides.
“We are liaising with emergency services and local authorities.
“Avoid using low-lying footpaths and any bridges near local watercourses and do not attempt to walk or drive through flood water.
“This message will be updated by 6pm, or as the situation changes.”
