We woke up at 6.30am for breakfast at 7am and left RGH at approx 7.45am to pick up graduates and trainees from St Joseph’s College. We were introduced to the principle and students and then split into our teams.

Day one – Kitarasa site Once we arrived on site, we assessed the work to be done on the first classroom and quickly got in to groups with a mixture of graduates and trainees.

As there was only one ladder on site, we started work on making a second ladder. Whilst this was happening another group went to unload the classrooms of the benches and desks and started restoration of the beams, four walls and window frames.

This was done with the students using wire brushes and sandpaper.

At the end of a hot sunny we achieved more than expected.

Day one - Kyakatara (aka Chakka Khan) site Once we arrived on site we all again assessed the work to be done and split up into different working areas and classrooms. We then started work on shuttering for concreting, preparing the work surfaces (walls) and preserving the beams. At school break time, the children all came out and surrounded the buildings that we were working on – they we very intrigued in what we were doing.

For lunch we tried a number of local traditional dishes.

After lunch work carried on as usual until finish. We felt extremely happy about our achievements during the day.
