FOLLOWING on from a disappointing performance at Penrith, Widnes will be hoping for better things when they take on another of last season’s promoted teams, New Brighton, at Heath Road on Saturday, kick off 2.15pm.
Wids slipped three places in the table as a result of the loss while New Brighton have made steady progress since their return to North One West, and currently lie 11th in the table.
They are on a four-match losing run - their latest defeat being a 30-25 reverse against Broughton Park.
Widnes travelled to Penrith seemingly the form team, having won their previous two matches while then hosts had lost theirs but they fell 30-14.
Paul O' Connor scored a try converted by Kevin Leadbetter after five minutes to give Wids a strong start.
Penrith hit back with two penalties and a try from number eight Toomata to lead 11-7 at the break.
The second half saw the home side use their superior forward power to good effect, and they scored three further tries, two of which were converted, before Widnes had the final say, with a penalty try in the closing moments.
