Widnes Vikings have signed 27-year-old back-row Setaimata Sa has signed for the 2016 season.

At 6’ 2”, 16 stone Sa will add great physical presence to the Vikings as well as exceptional power and skill in attack and defence.

Denis Betts commented on the new signing: “Sa is a fantastic signing for us. He is someone that we have coveted throughout this season and that we have thought highly of over the past couple of years. He wants to play as a back-rower and that’s what we were looking for. He also has the ability to pass and play having spent time in the halves at Catalans Dragons. He has got a great strike rate and is very tough physically.

"Signing Sa introduces another international class player into our group. This addition is another piece of the jigsaw that will help us develop further as a really solid unit. I am really pleased that Sa has decided to join us.”

Sa is excited about joining the Vikings and is looking forward to teaming up with his new teammates including a few familiar faces he has played alongside at previous clubs.

He said: “I’ve seen a few Widnes Vikings games and they play a brand of footy that I enjoy playing. They seem to like to throw the ball around a bit and that will suit me.

"I have had a good chat with Brett Hodgson about the move and I liked everything he had to say.

"I think I have still got plenty to learn and it will be great to keep learning from the coaching team at Widnes that all have great playing experience under their belts.

"I’ve heard a lot about Denis Betts and it’s all positive. #

"Having spoken to Denis I am excited about playing for the Vikings and hope to be able to make a big contribution playing as I like to play; on instinct and on the basis of what is in front of me.

I’ve heard everyone at the club is really nice. In fact I’ve heard nothing but good things. I know a few of the players like Aaron (Heremaia), Hep (Cahill) and Manase (Manuokafoa).

"Heading over to play with them will make the transition a bit easier.”

Sa will join the Vikings from Hull FC where he has played for the past 18 months.

Lee Radford commented on Sa leaving the club: “Setaimata has had some really great games for us and it's been great to have him here for the last 18 months.

"He is a model professional and a great guy to have around the club.”
