PACKMAN Hep Cahill wants Widnes Vikings to carry on where they left off when they travel to Catalans on Saturday to kick off their Super 8s campaign.

Vikings thrashed the Dragons 32-4 a week last Sunday – a defeat that saw the French outfit slump to their fifth defeat on the bounce.

It won’t be a walk in the park in Perpignan particularly as Dragons are playing for more, as they jostle with St Helens for the fourth semi-final spot.

Cahill said: “Catalans are on a poor run but are due to turn the corner sooner or later. We have just got to put our best foot forward and play like we did last week.

“We just need to get over there and get the job done.

“They will be fighting to get one back on us, but we know what we need to do – if we play like we did last week.

“It is hard to put your finger on what has happened at Catalans, but the same thing happened to us after Easter when we fell off the rails after five or six wins.”

Cahill is more concerned about the way he and his Vikings teammates go in the Super 8s as they seek to climb higher up the table in the last seven matches.

He said: “We have been disappointed with our home form, you want to make that your fortress. We have had it in the past but not having it this year is disappointing.

“It is definitely a relief not to be down in the bottom four. They are all playing well so it’s hard to pick who will be playing off in the £Million game.

“We had a meeting a few weeks ago and said we don’t want to rely on other teams losing.

“We want to do our best, walk off the pitch with our heads held high because we have had a lot of games where we have played well but lost through discipline and errors we have just got to get rid of that.”

Cahill will be with Vikings again next year, taking up the option he had to stay on a further year.

“I enjoy Widnes – I have a young family and have been here five years now so they have kind of grown up here and are settled, enjoying the club,” he said.

Vikings’ trip to the DW Stadium to take on Wigan Warriors has been rescheduled to Thursday, September 1, kick off 8pm.
